Jay West - Call The Boss Lost My Dog [LMD028]
Lost My Dog's first EP release of 2010 is all about THE FUNK, and what better man to step up than Jay West, one of the finest purveyors of funk-laden grooves in the underground house arena. Argentinean Jay is a busy guy, with a constant worldwide tour schedule and a prolific release rate for his own labels Candy Music and Flavor, as well as on a string of worldwide imprints. Four more funktastic remixes are provided by Neighbour, Peckos, Junia Ovadose and Roland Nights.
Andy Riley (Inland Knights / Toka Project): great ep! all tracks strong but favs would be jays orig mix,the neighbour and junia remixes, wicked! Mark Farina: Junia Ovadose mix - Feelin' this! Neighbour 'Ultraboogie' Remix is solid too. Joshua Heath: original kind of has an old inland knights thang goin on to it, i dig it. Neighbours mix is dope as well, a little 80's on those beats, nice harmonic changes throughout. Tommy Largo: cool stuff. liking the original and peckos mix the most. will play
DMC Update - 5/5 Jay's original manages to weld old school Chicago vocal stutters and Mr Fingers bassline with DJ Pierre
Wild Pitch hypno-repetition and NYC deep house sensibilities - to
marvellously grooved-up effect. There's also four cracking remixes:
Canada's Matt 'Neighbour' Dauncey takes the boogie route with wild synth
action, hen's antelope scrotum riffage and jazzy flourishes, LMD
stalwart Peckos turns in a dreamy slab of classic NY-style deepness,
while Junia Overdose takes the skippy house route with farting duck
chorale. Finally Danny Stott calls himself Roland Nights to focus on
the bassline and build a hypnotic head of steam.

In the original mix of "Call the Boss' you'll enjoy his arpeggiated synths, stabbing over his percussion and booming kicks. "We've been playing over the last hour...get sweaty, ya know,' echoes over his flowing track, adding to the delightful rhythms.

Looking for something beyond soulful vocals, perhaps a little dirtier, but definitely fun? Try the Original Mix - it's a tad techier, and will induce some serious movement. Drop the Neighbour Remix for a breaks feel or the Peckos "Play" Remix for more upbeat spacey-ness. For fans of bouncy, funky House, the track for you is Junia Ovadose's "Japanese" Remix. It's got the dirt of the original but will immediately pull faces out from the abyss and make the bodies bop around. Pass on the Roland Nights Remix unless you're catering to a clubbier snazzy crowd, although it is a solid track.
